LOWER SCHOOL
Second Trimester Report Cards
Report cards were sent home today for all Lower School students in back pack mail. If by some chance you did not receive your child’s report card, please contact Brigitte in the Lower School office.
Jump Rope for Heart
All Lower School students participated in special heart healthy, aerobic events on Tuesday. Many different jump rope stations were set up and the children spent time during extended PE classes jumping their way through each station. We would like to thank our PE teacher, Angel Chelik, for coordinating this special event for our students. The students learned many different ways of jumping and new twists with a jump rope as a result of this program. Many classroom teachers as well as Rufina Feld, Music teacher, and Sarah Jenkins, Art teacher, helped out turning ropes and jumping with the students.
We would like to thank DiAhndra Diamond/Topelson for providing a DJ for the day’s activities. The loud, rhythmic beats added quite a bit to the program. We would also like to thank both the Diamond/Topelson and Foonberg families for donating the nutritious fruit snacks at the “refueling” station.
Stayed tuned to next week’s Shofar to see the total amount raised for the American Heart Association.
Professional Development Day
Please remember that next Friday, March 12, is our last Professional Development day for Lower School staff. THERE IS NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS THAT DAY. Staff will be working together in a variety of areas - technology, curriculum mapping and developing a scope and sequence document.

Basketball
The high school season which ended in late February was great for both boys and girls. Students who received All- District Honors were Naomi Clayman, Mia Kutner, Ian McKenzie and Sam Rotbart. On the evening of Feb. 27, the boys lost a very competitive overtime game to rival Community Christian. It was a classic game that went down to the last shot. Thanks again to Coaches Michael Foonberg, Jeannette Portier and Scott James.
Baseball
The baseball season is underway. All participants should be sure that forms and fees have been turned in.

- There will be a special evening (7:00 – 8:30) for 9th graders and their parents on Thursday, March 25, with Shanna Hamblin Pomager, from the University of Denver admissions office. The evening will provide a strong introduction to the college process for both students and parents.
March 5 will be the last day of attendance for Shai Pincus who has been with us from Chile since January 4. (We are happy to report that Shai’s family in Chile was not harmed in the earthquake.) PTO
Volunteer of the week
Heather Oginsky, thank you for putting your money where your mouth is. Our resident artist and mother of Zehariah (2nd grade), offered to put $500 toward a kiln for the school. DiAhndra Diamond-Topelson, mother of Ari (2nd grade) also believes that exploring art is an important part of our children’s education and is also contributing $500. Only $3,000 to go. Naming rights to the kiln go to the first person to donate $1,000.
Thanks to Garbanzos Mediterranean Restaurant once again.
Our school families purchased over $1,000 worth of falafel last week! PTO earned $150 and the Mor family (Maya and Yarden-3rd grade) matched that, bringing our total to $300. As part of the school’s strategy to win a grant for a playground sunshade, PTO plans to buy sun block for as many classrooms as possible with the money.
Save the Date
Final PTO meeting, March 18th. Be there and be fabulous.
