LOWER SCHOOL
Kindergarten
The kindergarten students received a standing ovation this past week upon completing their Parent Breakfast program. They learned songs for TuB'Shevat, Martin Luther King Day and performed in a dramatic reading of, The Great Kapok Tree. They created a beautiful rainforest that is on display in the Lower School front hallway.
First Grade
Mazel Tov to all our first grade students upon receiving their very own siddur at the special Hagigat HaSiddur program today. The program highlighted the many tefilot (prayers) that they have learned this year. The students acted out various stories, vignettes from the Bible as part of the performance.
Second Grade
Second grade students are busy preparing for their Parent breakfast/Hagigat Chumash that will take place on Thursday, February 18th at 8:00am in the Strear Family gymnasium. They are looking forward to receiving their own Tanach (Bible).
Third Grade
We invite everyone to come and see the amazing "water" projects that the third grade students created. They are on display outside the third grade classrooms. The students studied water cycles as part of a Hebrew unit on TuB'Shevat. The creativity of these students is truly something special to see first hand. We would like to thank Hebrew teacher, Mrs. Henya Bergman, for her assistance with this wonderful project.
Fourth Grade
Fourth grade students participated in a Parent breakfast program last week. The program showcased original poetry, songs and a play in Hebrew. The students also participated in an interactive TuB'Shevat seder. They had the opportunity to taste many different kinds of fruits that grow in Israel and locally. Many thanks to Morah Gayle for her efforts in organizing the seder for the students.
Fifth Grade
The fifth grade students all participated in a very special storytelling festival this week. The students recently completed a folklore unit of study in writing. As part of this unit, each groups of students created their own "island." Within each island they designed an island seal, country flag and anthem, wrote an island constitution, produced a brochure in the computer lab, made a map and composed one of each: fable, folktale, legend and Pour quoi story. During the festival each student gave a dramatic presentation of his or her "island" folktale. Food delicacies representative of island cuisine were created and shared with all during intermission. This was a collaborative effort headed by Ms. Terri Otto, fifth grade teacher, and included the specials staff (Ms. Jenkins, Mr. Cohen, Ms. Feld and Ms. Shapiro). We would like to thank the fifth grade team and staff members for the tremendous effort involved in making this project such a rich learning experience for the students.
