Avi Halzel, President and Chief Executive Officer.  Avi Halzel began serving as the President and CEO on July 16, 2007.  Mr. Halzel is married and has four children attending Herzl/RMHA at the Denver Campus.  He has a MAEd. in Jewish Education from University of Judaism and has 16 years of experience as an administrator in Jewish schools.  Mr. Halzel comes to us from Memphis, TN where he spent eight years as Head of School at Bornblum Solomon Schechter School, a 200 student Jewish day school for students in grades 1-8.  Avi states, "This is a very exciting time to be at the Denver Campus for Jewish Education.  I am so pleased to have the opportunity to work with our highly talented staff, visionary lay people, caring parents and wonderful students.”

Marcie Calm, Head of Herzl Lower School,

has been associated with the Lower School since 1993 in a variety of roles.  She was a second grade teacher, the Hebrew/Judaic Coordinator and the Assistant Head of the Lower School.  Most recently (July, 2007), Marcie took on the main leadership of the Lower School by assuming the position of Head of the Lower School.

Marcie brings fine academic credentials to this position.  She graduated from UCLA in Judaic Studies and received a certificate of Graduate Study in Early Childhood Education from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.  She also had the outstanding opportunity to participate in the Harvard Principals’ Center Summer Institute in July, 2005.

Bryan Hay, Head of RMHA Upper School, has dedicated the past 20 years of his professional life to the Rocky Mountain Hebrew Academy. He was appointed Principal/Head of RMHA, now the Herzl/RMHAUpper School, in 1993. Before that, he served on the Social Studies faculty. Mr. Hay did graduate work in the History of Political Thought at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He received his B.A. in History from the Colorado College.

Rabbi Harry Sinoff, Director of Judaic Studies, joined Herzl/RMHA in July 2005 to oversee K-12 Judaic studies. He will play a significant role in continuing to elevate Herzl/RMHA’s Judaic programs in line with the school’s Campaign for Educational Excellence. Rabbi Sinoff helped to establish Boston’s Gann Academy as a national model for pluralistic Jewish education and served as Dean of Faculty and Head of the Talmud Department. He has also taught at Maimonides School and the Prozdor of Hebrew College in the Boston area. He holds a B.A. Cum Laude from Columbia University, 1976; a J.D. from Boston University School of Law 1979; and Semicha Yoreh Yoreh from Rabbi Pinchas Hirschprung zt’l, 1987. He was a Jerusalem Fellow in 1995-1996; and a participant in Boston’s Mandel Teacher Educator Institute, 2003-4.
